Three individuals have been arrested in connection with an attempt to introduce contraband into the Hinds County Detention Center, authorities reported.

According to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones, deputies and K-9 Narcotics conducted an early morning operation at the detention facility in Raymond. During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered multiple contraband items near the facility’s grounds in a wooded area. The recovered items included cell phones, tobacco, K-2 spice, methamphetamine, marijuana, promethazine syrup, cigars, and other related substances.

A traffic stop was later initiated on a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity; however, the driver fled from deputies, leading to a brief pursuit. Following the chase, deputies arrested Johnnie Donaldson, Jr., 28; Quinnvarrius Tims, 29; and Jaylon Gray, 28.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of two firearms, one of which had been reported stolen from the Jackson Police Department.

Authorities confirmed that Donaldson has been charged with felony fleeing, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a controlled substance. Tims faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent, possession of a stolen firearm, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Gray has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a controlled substance with intent.

The sheriff said the three men are now being held in the very jail they are accused of trying to sneak contraband into.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue efforts to prevent contraband from entering the detention facility.
