The Salvation Army is preparing for another demanding season of need with just 100 days until Christmas. While the economy has improved slightly, thousands of area residents face challenges during the holidays as high prices for food and housing continue.

“We have found that we are receiving more requests for assistance than ever before,” Major Timothy Delaney of the Salvation Army in Jackson said. “Many people are still struggling to make ends meet.”

The Salvation Army of Jackson serves the Greater Jackson Metro Area, including six surrounding counties, and anticipates requests for services to increase this holiday season over previous years.

Last year, the organization provided over 9,865 Christmas gifts to area children, served 23,389 meals, and provided 9.982 nights of shelter. In addition, the local Salvation Army supplied food pantry and utility assistance to over 2,320 families.

“With the public’s generosity, The Salvation Army will continue to provide help and hope to our neighbors in need,” Major Delaney said. “We are grateful for how the residents of Central Mississippi support us, but we need help now more than ever.”

To offer more convenient giving options, The Salvation Army allows donors to support their neighbors through giving in various ways.

  • Enlist in Love’s Army with a sustaining gift of $25 per month
  • Provide new toys and clothing through The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program

“Every donation stays right here in Central Mississippi to support the local programs and services we offer,” Major Delaney said. “When you give, you are strengthening our community by helping your neighbors right where you live.”
