On September 23, 2025, the Historic Natchez Foundation will host a program that explores the life and legacy of one of Natchez’s most talked-about figures, Nellie Jackson. The evening will begin with a social at 5:30 p.m. at 108 Commerce Street, followed by a presentation from four distinguished speakers. Attorneys Rusty Jenkins, Joe Meng, and Brent Bourland, along with former mayor Tony Byrne, will share rare insights into Jackson’s life, her will, and the deeper meaning of her place in Natchez history.
Though often remembered for running her famed establishment, Jackson was far more than her reputation suggests. She was a fixture in the community, known for her respect for others and her unique role in shaping how people understood Natchez. The program will highlight not only the untold stories surrounding her will but also her broader influence on the culture and character of the city.
This gathering offers more than history; it provides a reflection on community, humanity, and why Natchez continues to be considered a truly special place. The event is free and open to the public, making it a rare opportunity to hear personal accounts and professional perspectives on a woman whose story has long been layered in myth and misunderstanding.
