Camp Binachi tent material is being repurposed into one-of-a-kind shoes, preserving nostalgia with every step.

Memories from Camp Binachi can now be carried anywhere, thanks to a unique initiative.

On Wednesday, Shloop began production on the Camp Binachi shoe, crafted from repurposed Camp Binachi tents.

This effort is a result of a collaboration between Shloop and the Choctaw Area Council Scouting America, aimed at sustainably preserving the tent materials while honoring the memories they hold for so many.

Mike Van Duren, CEO of Shloop, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting the rarity of U.S.-based shoe manufacturing facilities. “There are only maybe four or five factories in the whole United States. We’re fortunate to have this one right here in Meridian,” he said. Van Duren noted the excitement among workers as they witnessed the final production phase of the scout shoes, emphasizing the significance of seeing months of development come to fruition.

James Hulgan, Scout Executive and CEO of the Choctaw Area Council, explained the mutual benefits of the partnership. “Out of every shoe sale, we are in partnership with Shloop. We are able to get a return on that investment. We have donated the materials to Shloop for the production cost, and then, out of every pair that is sold, we will get a portion of that back to help support the local council,” he stated, expressing enthusiasm about the collaboration.
