The Mississippi Film Office has unveiled its new brand identity as Film Mississippi and relaunched its website, filmmississippi.org, to reflect the new branding.

Along with the name change, Film Mississippi worked with Jackson-based art and design studio Southern Cult to develop the new visual identity, which includes a logo, pattern schemes and refreshed colorways and typography.

“When we celebrated our fiftieth anniversary in 2023, we began looking to the future,” said Film Mississippi Director Nina Parikh. “We wanted a modern logo and brand that reflects the vitality of our state’s burgeoning film and TV industry, the creativity and talent of our workforce and a vision to carry us forward for the next half century.”

Film Mississippi’s new stylized ‘M’ logo evokes recognizable imagery of the state while offering modern, legible and memorable iconography. It suggests a flowing river, connecting to the Mississippi River, while also evoking ideas of making waves, progress and seizing the moment.

“We’re excited to start a new chapter with this rebrand. It reinforces a forward-thinking identity that elevates Mississippi in the dialogue around innovation in filmmaking,” said Parikh.

Southern Cult, led by designer Tyler Tadlock, has developed successful branding initiatives for clients like the City of Jackson’s Department of Transportation and the Jackson Museum Trail.

“‘Film Mississippi’ is not just a brand identity — it’s a call to action. It reminds producers and location scouts that Mississippi is ready for their projects, while inspiring creators to tell Mississippi stories,” said Tadlock.

Updating filmmississippi.org was a critical element of the rebrand. The website provides a gateway into the many resources Film Mississippi offers filmmakers, from its Reel Scout location database to the Crew and Services Directory and incentive application portal.

For more than 50 years, Film Mississippi has worked to recruit top productions to the state, from feature films to documentaries, commercials and more. Building on that legacy, the office also has helped strengthen Mississippi’s competitive edge in the film industry through its incentive programs. Since 2004, Film Mississippi has administered the Mississippi Motion Picture Incentive Program, which offers a cash rebate of up to 35 percent for productions. In 2024, the Mississippi Episodic Television Incentive Program was added, providing up to a 40 percent cash rebate for episodic productions.

Major productions that have been filmed in the state include: The Chamber starring Gene Hackman and Chris O’Donnell; The Insider starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe; O’ Brother, Where Art Thou? starring George Clooney and John Goodman; My Dog Skip starring Frankie Muniz and Kevin Bacon; The Help starring Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis; Get On Up starring Chadwick Boseman and Dan Aykroyd; and HGTV’s Home Town starring Erin and Ben Napier.
