Southwark Metal Manufacturing Company is expanding its presence in DeSoto County with plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Hernando. The project represents an investment of more than $29 million and is expected to create 25 new jobs for the local workforce.

The company, which specializes in the production of HVAC sheet metal pipe, ducts and fittings used in residential and light commercial applications, operates seven facilities across the United States. Its Mississippi Division already runs a manufacturing operation in Southaven, where about 150 employees currently work.

The new facility in Hernando will allow the company to expand its manufacturing capacity and better serve HVAC distributors across the region. Construction on the new plant is expected to be completed by March 2027.

Governor Tate Reeves said the expansion reflects Mississippi’s growing reputation as a strong place for companies to invest and grow.

“Southwark Metal Manufacturing is expanding in Mississippi because companies know this is a top state for sustainable, long-term growth,” Reeves said. “The company is creating new jobs, investing millions and proving that manufacturing thrives here. When companies succeed, local families and communities thrive right alongside them — that’s how we’ve built a stronger Mississippi and why our historic momentum continues.”

The Mississippi Development Authority is supporting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program, known as MFLEX. Local officials in Hernando and DeSoto County are also assisting with the expansion.

Company leadership said the investment reflects confidence in the region’s workforce and the strong relationships the company has built in North Mississippi.

“Southwark has been family-owned since 1946, and our values remain rooted in supporting our employees and strengthening the communities we call home,” said Bill Spiegel. “Our continued investment in Hernando is a reflection of the talented workforce here and the strong local partnerships that make growth possible. We are proud to expand in DeSoto County, create new jobs and build on relationships that will sustain this community for years to come.”

Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson said the project will bring lasting benefits to the community.

“Southwark Metal Manufacturing’s decision to expand in Hernando is a strong vote of confidence in our workforce, infrastructure and business climate,” Johnson said. “This $29 million investment and the creation of 25 new jobs will have a meaningful impact on local families and our community. By supporting quality companies like Southwark and encouraging smart growth, we will ensure Hernando remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
