Methodist Rehabilitation Center in Jackson recently named Rev. Maxine Bolden as its new chaplain.

An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, Rev. Bolden serves as chaplain of Tougaloo College—the first female and only the second alumnus to serve in her alma mater’s history. She leads the on-campus United Church of Christ as pastor and is also an adjunct assistant professor of Religion and Philosophy in the college’s School of Humanities.

She has a bachelor of arts in English from Tougaloo and a master of divinity in Psychology of Religion and Pastoral Care from Gammon Theological Seminary/ITC in Atlanta. She is currently a doctor of philosophy candidate in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University.

Rev. Bolden has been married to Michael Bolden for 33 years. They have two adult children, a “daughter-in-love,” three grandchildren and a fur baby. She enjoys teaching, writing, reading mysteries and traveling. She said her life scripture is Romans 8:28: “For we know that God is working all things together for the good of those who love God and are called according to God’s purpose.”
