Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons and Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of a new bridge on Mill St. over Town Creek in Jackson.

“This new bridge embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that defines Jackson. It stands as a testament to our commitment to invest in this city and its residents,” said Simmons. “I hope this bridge serves as a symbol of our ability to overcome obstacles and forge ahead towards a safer and more connected capital city.”

The existing bridge was a three-span bridge with the brick intermediate bents located in Town Creek. To improve hydraulics, the new bridge is a single 110-foot single span across Town Creek.

The $1.9 million project was awarded to Hemphill Construction Company. Volkert, Inc. designed the new bridge.

The project was funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and appropriated by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

MDOT’s Local Public Agencies (LPA) Division oversees the planning, design and construction of LPA projects funded by FHWA. For more information on MDOT’s LPA Division, visit GoMDOT.com.
