Officials joined Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Willie Simmons this morning to celebrate the completion of a new sidewalk project on the Scooba campus of East Mississippi Community College (EMCC).
The ribbon cutting ceremony marked the completion of a project that provided a multi-use path around the entire campus perimeter. Work included lighting upgrades and drainage improvements.
The project aims to improve safety, connectivity and accessibility for EMCC students and faculty. Commissioner Simmons was joined by EMCC President Dr. Scott Alsobrooks and Kemper County Board of Supervisors President Scott Johnson.
“As Commissioner, what is so exciting about this project is that it adds beauty, connectivity and safety when you look at the drainage improvement that has been made on the campus,” said Commissioner Simmons. “This sidewalk connects all facilities. The student body can use this sidewalk to get to every facility on campus. That is fantastic.”
The $2.3 million project was federal funded with a local match of approximately $500,000. It was awarded to Simmons Erosion Control, Inc. of Lake, Miss.
