Dawn Barham, a National Board-Certified music educator serving in the state’s public school system for 35 years, has been appointed to the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television Board of Directors.
Gov. Tate Reeves appointed Barham to serve as a secondary education representative on the board that has oversight of Mississippi Public Broadcasting.
A Mississippi native, Barham earned Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. Barham currently teaches high school students from all congressional districts at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS), a nationally ranked public residential high school for academically abled and talented students.
Ms. Barham shared with other Board members this week, “I am very excited and honored to be joining the leadership of this organization. Education is my passion, and I believe that we have an opportunity to move Mississippi ahead as we support our students, districts, parents, and citizens of our state.”
During her tenure at MSMS, Barham has contributed to the performing arts curriculum by expanding its scope and developing outreach programs. Barham is also a member of the school’s executive leadership team.
Barham’s numerous credentials include being a Mississippi Hall of Master Teachers inductee, a Grammy-nominated Quarterfinalist Music Educator and a multiyear recipient of the Mississippi Economic Council’s Star Teacher Award.
MPB Executive Director, Royal Aills echoed enthusiasm as he introduced her to other MPB Board members Wednesday, “I am very encouraged that we have another educator on the team as we push to expand our support for education in Mississippi.”
