As winter weather moves across Mississippi, bringing hazardous conditions and forcing the cancellation of mobile blood drives, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is asking the community to step up and help save lives.
With donation centers in North Mississippi impacted for the safety of donors and staff, the state’s blood supply is under strain—while patient needs continue every day.
“As the community prepares for winter weather, we’re asking everyone to help us stay ready to support hospitals and patients,” said Kasey Dickson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at MBS. “The time to act is now. Your donation could save lives.”
Now, more than ever, the community has the power to make a difference. Mississippi Blood Services is urging donors to come to the Flowood Donation Center, where extended hours are available this weekend to ensure hospitals have the lifesaving blood they need. O and B blood types are especially needed, though donors of all blood types are encouraged to give.
Whole blood donors will receive a $20 Visa, and platelet donors will receive a $50 Visa as a thankyou for their lifesaving gift. But the real reward is knowing your donation could directly help a neighbor, a friend, or even a loved one in urgent need.
Extended Hours at the Flowood Donation Center:
115 Tree Street, Flowood, MS
• Saturday, January 24: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Sunday, January 25: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
If you are able to safely travel, please consider giving blood at the Flowood Center this weekend. By taking the time to donate, you are helping ensure hospitals across Mississippi can continue to
provide care for patients in emergencies, surgeries, cancer treatment, trauma care, and chronic illnesses—even in the midst of winter weather challenges.
