Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) received two 2026 National Edward R. Murrow Awards, recognizing excellence in journalism in both the News Documentary and Feature Reporting categories.

MPB was honored in the News Documentary category for “Everlasting: Life and Legacy of Medgar Evers,” an MPB original documentary that explores the life, leadership, and enduring legacy of Civil Rights Movement icon Medgar Evers as remembered through the eyes of his wife, children and the civil right leaders who walked with him during that turbulent period in American history. Released in September 2025, the documentary has also received a regional Emmy award, a Mississippi Historical Society Award, and a Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Award.

In the Feature Reporting category, MPB was honored for “Emmett Till remembered through events marking 70 years since the teenager’s brutal murder,” produced by MPB News reporter Shamira Muhammad. The report documented commemorative events across the Mississippi Delta and brought together the voices of Till’s family members, veterans of the Civil Rights Movement, historians, and community members to examine the enduring impact of his murder and the significance of remembering his life and legacy.

“Mississippi has stories that deserve to be told with depth, accuracy and care — stories that wouldn’t or couldn’t be told on commercial stations,” said MPB Executive Director Royal Aills. “Our team continues to demonstrate public media’s role in preserving our history, elevating Mississippi voices and providing journalism that truly serves our communities. That is the responsibility of MPB, and we are proud to do that work every day.”

Presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association, the Edward R. Murrow Awards recognize outstanding achievement in broadcast and digital journalism and honor work that informs communities, holds power accountable and exemplifies excellence in the profession.

“For MPB, this recognition underscores our organization’s commitment to serve Mississippi by informing communities, preserving our rich cultural heritage, and providing context for the complex issues and unique history that continue to shape the state,” continued Aills.
