This event is for everyone who has an interest in helping Mississippi families be their children’s first and most important teachers. It is an opportunity to share the new resource with educators, community leaders and those closely tied to parent groups. Registration is required to attend.
MPB and the University co-produced the “Mind in the Making” series based on the book of the same name by Ellen Galinsky, a national expert on supporting young children and their families. It focuses on the seven essential skills children must develop to build a strong foundation for lifelong success. The series explains the fascinating science behind these skills as well as practical ways adults can help children nurture these skills in everyday life.
The launch event will provide previews of the “Mind in the Making” series and include commentary by leaders in Mississippi’s business, education and health sectors. The event also will announce a major partnership between MPB and the University in support of families with young children. That partnership will include a website that provides guidance and resources for parents and early childhood professionals, programs such as Parents Are Teachers Too and Parent Academy, and support for community mobilization to ensure children are literacy proficient by the end of grade three (the Mississippi Campaign for Grade-Level Reading.)
The Aug. 31 launch event is free, but registration is required. Lunch will be served. Register here.
