Management and Training Corporation, the private company overseeing the facility, expressed sorrow in a statement, disclosing that one guard was declared deceased at the scene, while the other was taken into custody by Lauderdale County sheriff’s deputies. The statement conveyed the company’s cooperation with local law enforcement’s investigation into the circumstances leading to the altercation.
The facility operator stated, “We are heartbroken to report a tragic and fatal altercation that occurred between two correctional officers at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility.” The statement extended condolences to the victim’s family.
