The Mississippi National Guard (MSNG) deployed approximately 280 service members to the National Capitol Region (NCR) to support the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Park Police during the Army’s 250th birthday festivities, June 14, 2025. The Soldiers and Airmen from the 112th Military Police Battalion, the 172nd Airlift Wing, and the 186th Air Refueling Wing, left from Thompson Field Air National Guard Base in Flowood this morning.

On June 14, 2025, the U.S. Army, a military branch a year older than the Nation itself, will mark a significant milestone – the 250th anniversary of its establishment. Reflecting on the rich history and legacy of service, sacrifice, and dedication, servicemen and women in the NCR will celebrate the Army’s birthday with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington Cemetery, a Birthday Festival at the National Mall, an Army Band concert, a parade, and many other activities and ceremonies.

The MSNG service members will assist the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Park Police in providing security details near the U.S. Capitol Building, ensuring a safe and secure NCR during the 250th Army birthday celebration. The mission focus of the Guardsmen is to support local and federal agencies with increasing the capacity for public safety and the protection of life and property.

From the Revolutionary War to present-day missions, our Soldiers have consistently demonstrated their resolve to defend freedom at home and abroad. Since its establishment by the Continental Congress in 1775, U.S. Army Soldiers, families, and Army civilians have supported our Nation, bearing true faith and allegiance to the country, the U.S. Constitution, the Army, their units, and fellow team members.

Thank you for your continued support of the men and women serving in the Mississippi National Guard and the families that support them.
