Thirty baseball players from Mississippi heard their names called in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft, a remarkable showing that once again put the Magnolia State in the national spotlight for its athletic talent. The draft took place July 13-14 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Leading the way was Purvis High School standout JoJo Parker, who made history as Mississippi’s only first-round pick this year. Parker was selected ninth overall by the Toronto Blue Jays, marking a major milestone for the young outfielder and his hometown.

College programs across the state also made a strong showing. Ole Miss had the most draftees of any Mississippi school with nine Rebels selected, showcasing the depth of talent on their roster. Mississippi State wasn’t far behind, with seven Bulldogs hearing their names. Southern Miss added four more players to the state’s total.

Several standout performances during the college season helped elevate draft stocks. Southern Miss pitcher JB Middleton was the second-highest pick from the state, going 45th overall to the Colorado Rockies. Landon Harmon, a rising star from East Union Attendance Center High School, followed close behind, picked 80th by the Washington Nationals. Just one spot later, Southern Miss infielder Jake Cook was taken 81st overall by the Blue Jays.

Other early-round selections included Ole Miss stars Mason Morris and Luke Hill, USM’s Nick Monistere, and Mississippi State’s Pico Kohn—all of whom were chosen within the top five rounds.
