Churches and faith-based organizations are invited to attend a free mental health summit sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH), the Mississippi Public Health Institute (MSPHI) and the Congregational Recovery Outreach Program (CROP). Faith-based communities and organizations play a vital role in supporting people and families facing mental health challenges. The summit will be held at the Jackson Convention Complex on Thursday, April 25 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Titled “A Bridge of Hope – Where Faith and Mental Health Connect” the summit brings together church leaders, mental health professionals, and caregivers from around the state to offer discussions and presentations aimed at equipping faith-based organizations to better serve and support those dealing with mental health crisis.

“These organizations serve as pillars of strength, offering compassionate care, understanding, and a sense of community to those in need,” said Wendy Bailey, Executive Director of DMH. “Their commitment to addressing mental health issues aligns seamlessly with our mission at the Mississippi Department of Mental Health to provide accessible and comprehensive mental health services to all Mississippians.”

One initiative that has been focused on this collaboration is CROP. Through CROP, positive impacts of faith-based support in our mental health services have been made for communities in Mississippi. Churches and faith-based groups can often reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed, helping to ensure that no one is left without access to the care and assistance they deserve. CROP has helped train congregations and faith leaders on warning signs, risk factors, and how to connect people to help for mental health and substance use.

Registration is required for those attending. To register or for more information contact Sylvia Turner at 769-666-8729 or MSPHI at 601-398-4406. Interested organizations and individuals can also email CROP@msphi.org.
