The Board of Directors of Legacy Education and Community Empowerment Foundation, Inc., continues its tradition of awarding up to $1,000 scholarships to students, educators, and community workers based on their leadership excellence. The Legacy Foundation, headquartered in Forest, MS, has provided services to the community for thirteen years. Retired Attorney Constance Slaughter-Harvey is the founder, and Dr. Constance Harvey-Burwell, EdD, is the Executive Director and co-founder. Since the inception of Legacy in 2011, more than $125,000 in scholarships have been awarded. This year, Legacy invested $27,000 in educational scholarships.
Awardees are:
1. Andrea K. Hollis is a first-time Scott County Legacy Community Awardee and is the current Senior Director of Recruiting Strategy at Mississippi State University.
2. Dr. Rhonda D. Kelley is a fourth-year Legacy Education Project Teacher recipient at Forest Elementary School in Scott County, MS.
3. Kathern Crudup Qualls is a fourth-year Legacy Social Emotional Needs Education Project Teacher recipient at Forest Elementary School in Scott County, MS.
4. Frances Richmond is a third-year Legacy Mathematics Education Project Teacher recipient at Morton High School in Scott County, MS.
5. Jessica Reiss Melton is a past scholarship and first-year recipient of the Legacy Professional Development recipient at Forest Elementary school in Scott County, MS
6. Sister Eileen Hauswald is a first-time teacher recipient of the Legacy Community Education Project at Morton Community Center, formally Excel.
7. Caelyn E. Funches is a second-time Yazoo County Harvey-Burwell Family Scholarship recipient and is a first-year Biology Major at Tougaloo College.
8. Dravin Knowles is a second-time Leake County Senator Henry Kirksey Memorial recipient and is a first-year student 3.2 GPA Civil Engineer Major at Jackson State University.
9. Anna G. Reed is a second-time Newton County Legacy Education and Community Empowerment Foundation Scholarship recipient, is a 4.0 GPA Political Science Graduate of East Central Community College and was inducted into ECCC’s Hall of Fame.
10. Aaliyah N. James is a second-year Rankin County Aura Neely-Gary Memorial Scholarship recipient and a sophomore 3.8 G.P.A. Real Estate major at Hinds Community College in Raymond.
11. Ja’Nya Anderson is a first-year Madison County Dorothy Mannie Memorial recipient and 3.2 G.P.A. graduating senior at Summitt High School in Arlington, TX. She plans to become a forensic scientist.
12. Valarie Camargo is a first-year Scott County Gary Slaughter Family Memorial and 4.0 G.P.A. sophomore Nursing major and Public Health minor at the University of Southern Mississippi.
13. Nyah S. Davis is a first-year Scott County W.L. Slaughter Memorial Scholarship recipient and 3.6 G.P.A. graduating senior at Forest High School. She received a full athletic basketball scholarship to Tougaloo College. She will major in Biology.
14. Jaaliyah Ellis is a first-year Leake County Representative Charles Young Sr. Memorial Scholarship recipient and a 3.6 G.P.A. Junior Social Work major and Psychology minor at Alcorn State University.
15. Perry M. Fletcher II is a first-year Scott County Theaodis Gary Sr. Memorial Scholarship recipient and a 3.9 G.P.A. graduate senior at Morton High School. He received a full athletic basketball scholarship to Tougaloo College. He will major in communications.
16. Mykeria J. Hayes is a first-year Scott County Dick and Lucil Lovelady Memorial Scholarship recipient and a 3.1 G.P.A. graduating senior at Forest High School. She will attend Jones Community College and major in cosmetology.
17. Azaeliyah J. Lyles is a first-year Scott County O.K. Slaughter Memorial Scholarship recipient and a 3.5 G.P.A graduating senior at Scott Central Attendance Center. She is undecided by will major in sonography and minor in cosmetology.
18. Tylashia Pinkston is a first-year Scott County Todd Pinkston Scholarship recipient and a 2.9 G.P.A. senior at Forest High School. She will attend Hinds Community College to major in Business and minor in Real Estate.
19. Jatareous R. Washington is a first-year Scott County Mother Henrietta Horton Memorial Scholarship recipient and a 3.0 G.P.A. graduating senior at Forest High School. He is undecided on college but will major in diesel mechanics.
20. Derrick Sinegal Jr. is a first-year Don Bell Scholarship recipient from Georgia and a 3.8 G.P.A. graduating senior Marketing major and Sports Management minor at Alcorn State University.
21. Kierra Henderson is a first-year Edmond Hughes Sr. and Naomi Wheaton Memorial Scholarship recipient from Texas and a 3.8 G.P.A. graduating senior Criminal Justice major from Alcorn State University.
22. Miguel M. Agustin is a first-year Scott County Jim Harvey Memorial Scholarship recipient and a 3.7 G.P.A. graduating senior at Forest High School. He received a full athletic soccer scholarship from Holmes Community College, where he will major in HVAC and minor in Industrial Maintenance.
23. Maria K. Morales is a first-year Scott County Legacy Education and Community Empowerment Foundation Inc. Scholarship recipient and received her associate’s degree in nursing from East Central Community College.
24. Mateo Gomez Garcia is a first-year Scott County Legacy Scholarship recipient and a 3.2 G.P.A. graduating senior at Forest High School. He has been a past summer camp scholar of Legacy for three years and Mr. Legacy Summer Camp. He will be attending East Central Community College to major in Technology.
25. Vanessa Perez is a first-year Scott County Legacy Scholarship recipient and a graduating senior at Forest High School. She has been a past summer camp scholar of Legacy for three years and Miss Legacy Summer Camp.
26. Sierra Maurbuary is a first-year Scott County Legacy Scholarship recipient and a graduating senior at Forest High School. She is a past summer camp scholar of Legacy.
27. Tierra Maurbuary is a first-year Scott County Legacy Scholarship recipient and a graduating senior at Forest High School. She is a past summer camp scholar of Legacy.
