Authorities in Greenville have discovered the remains of three individuals in a local storage unit, according to Mayor Errick D. Simmons.

In response to the discovery, Mayor Simmons described the situation as deeply disturbing and called for a thorough investigation. He extended his thoughts and prayers to the families who may be affected by the tragedy.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department, along with other local and state law enforcement agencies, will be leading the investigation.

Washington County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Billy Barber reported that Albert Creath, the former owner of Creath Memorial Services, has been arrested and charged with improper desecration of corpses. Creath had allegedly continued performing funeral and burial services using storage units after losing his license and business.

Deputies initially responded to a call regarding a casket and discovered that Creath had been operating the storage unit as an unauthorized funeral home while continuing to charge customers.

Mayor Simmons emphasized that the Greenville community upholds dignity, respect, and the rule of law, stating that such actions would not be tolerated. He urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist authorities in their investigation.

He also assured the public that updates on the investigation would be provided, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparency, public safety, and ensuring justice is served.
