The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ (MDWFP) Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) invites visitors to come face‑to‑face with some of the most awe‑inspiring creatures ever to walk the Earth! The Giants of the Ice Age exhibit opens January 31, 2026, and runs through August 23, 2026. Created by Dino Don, a natural history expert and adviser to Stephen Spielberg, Universal Studios, and Disney theme parks, this immersive, family-friendly exhibit showcases the drama and wonder of the Ice Age through 12 full‑sized, scientifically accurate, robotic animals that breathe, roar, move, and bring prehistoric life vividly into the present day. The exhibit is included with museum admission or with Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Foundation (MMNSF) Membership – offering exceptional value for families, educators, students, tourists, and lifelong learners.

Spanning both indoor and outdoor spaces, the exhibit blends cutting‑edge technology, hands‑on learning, and captivating storytelling to create an unforgettable journey through deep time. Stand beneath a towering Woolly Mammoth, come eye‑to‑eye with the fearsome Short‑faced Bear, and meet the Dire Wolf, Woolly Rhinoceros, and Terror Bird. The experience also introduces visitors to the fascinating Gigantopithecus – the largest primate to have ever lived – as well as the armored Glyptodon, the curious Macrauchenia, and the towering Irish Elk with its enormous antlers.

Throughout the exhibit, engaging displays, videos, and interactive learning stations explore how these remarkable species adapted to extreme Ice Age challenges. “As Mississippi’s home for natural science education, we are proud to bring an exhibit of this scale and quality to our community,” said Museum Director Angel Rohnke. “Giants of the Ice Age not only showcases remarkable prehistoric animals but also explores science in a way that is engaging, accessible, and inspiring.”

MMNSF provides vital support to the Museum and its programs. “Exhibits like Giants of the Ice Age are made possible through the generosity of our members, donors, and community partners,” said MMNSF Executive Director Susan Frazier. “Their support allows us to bring world‑class, immersive experiences to Mississippi – experiences that inspire curiosity, strengthen science education, and create lasting memories for families across our state.”
