Delta Blues Museum has won a place among ten organizations across the U.S. voted as “Best Music Museum” in USA Today’s annual “10BEST” Readers’ Choice Poll, the publication announced today. The historic Clarksdale institution is the only Mississippi museum to be awarded in its category.
The award highlights the work of the Museum, as described by USA Today editors: “Celebrating the birthplace of the blues and the musicians who shaped its distinctive sound, this museum–which is housed in a historic freight depot–features immersive storytelling that illuminates Clarksdale’s pivotal role in American music history. Visitors can view iconic instruments, personal artifacts, and engaging displays featuring the lives and legacies of artists such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and many other blues greats.”
Museum Director Shelley Ritter thanks readers and voters for the public support of Mississippi’s first music museum, adding, “We are honored to have been voted one of the top ten best music museums in the country. Delta Blues Museum isn’t just a place that preserves history—we also help foster the next generation of blues musicians through our Arts and Education Program, and we hope everyone will come see our work in person this year.”
