The Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi inaugural Quality Forum was held Friday, September 29th in Flowood. Comprehensive Quality Model (CQM) Hospital teams from across the state came together to share healthcare quality best practices, identify common quality improvement challenges and discuss potential solutions. Panel discussions, including top performing CQM Hospitals, focused on the importance of building effective healthcare teams as a foundation for robust healthcare quality performance improvement.

The Quality Forum showcased panel discussions from Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle, North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo and Singing River Health Systems. These hospitals shared insight into their work in patient safety and maternity care.

The Quality Forum’s keynote speaker, Dr. Mark Williams, Senior Advisor for the College of Community Health Sciences at the University of Alabama and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham stated, “The solution for safer, higher quality and more efficient healthcare is through the work of high-performing teams. The inaugural Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Quality Forum highlights the outstanding work occurring across Mississippi hospitals and provided an opportunity to share and learn collectively.”

The Comprehensive Quality Model is a value-based performance model that focuses on patient safety, appropriateness of care, adhering to evidence-based guidelines, health information management and patient outcomes. With thirty-two Mississippi hospitals participating in the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi CQM program, improvements in clinical care have been noted across the state. Work this past year resulted in fewer healthcare associated conditions, improved care for heart attack and increased adherence to best practices in maternal and infant health.

“We are pleased with the results from the initial two years of the program,” Dr. Lee Greer, Corporate Medical Director at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi said. “All Mississippians deserve high quality healthcare. This program is an excellent example of the value of collaboration between partners who are committed to making healthcare better for our state.”
