Moonlight Magnolia Concert Pinson Square.

Chickasaw County lays out a feast of fun and flavors, music and majestic outdoors with a three-in-one, all-in-one family-friendly celebration: The Cornbread Festival in downtown Houlka, the 10th anniversary of the Tanglefoot Trail® and a Moonlight Magnolia Concert in downtown Houston.

The day starts with the annual Cornbread Festival in Houlka at 9 a.m. and includes the 10th anniversary celebration of the Tanglefoot Trail, and a Moonlight Magnolia Concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. in historic downtown Houston.

9th Annual Cornbread Festival: Crowning a winner, celebrating Southern culture.

“Perhaps no bread in the world is as good as Southern cornbread,” Mark Twain once said. Attendees of this annual celebration of cornbread and culture will have the chance to enjoy a Southern-flavored Cornbread Festival in downtown Houlka. As in years past, the event will feature a cornbread contest to crown a cornbread winner, other Southern favorite foods, live music, arts and crafts, and activities for all ages. The event begins at 9 a.m.

Tanglefoot Trail: Seeing and savoring nature, history, and fun.

When it opened in 2013, the Tanglefoot Trail was an immediate hit with locals, and as word spread, people began coming from all parts of the country to bike, hike, or stroll the more than 43 miles of Mississippi’s longest rails-to-trails conversion. Running through the Appalachian foothills and into the heart of the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area, this GM&O rails-to-trails project connects visitors to nature and Mississippi history in quaint small towns. The trail’s rich experience earned it a top spot in the 2019 Rails-to-Trail Hall of Fame with one of the largest public vote counts to date. A trailhead in Houston makes for easy access.

Moonlight Magnolia Concert: Appealing and legendary.

For Appeal and Legends of the Blues are headliners at the Moonlight Magnolia Concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. in historic downtown Houston. The aptly named For Appeal serves up a blend of R&B, jazz fusion, and funk, while Legends of the Blues, a favorite on the regional festival circuit, puts together a uniquely inviting vibe of Motown and R&B sounds. The groups will perform in Historic Pinson Square. Food trucks will be on hand; admission is free.

“This is a true all-in-one opportunity to see, celebrate, and savor Chickasaw County in North Mississippi’s natural beauty and history as well as the region’s delightful culture, cuisine, and talent,” said Patsy Gregory, executive director of the Chickasaw Development Foundation. “This is a day and a place, that has everything.”
