Averitt Express, a leader in freight distribution and supply chain management, has announced a major expansion of its operations in Richland, Mississippi. The project represents a corporate investment of $9.6 million and will create 27 new jobs, further strengthening the company’s footprint in the state and contributing to Rankin County’s growing logistics industry.
Averitt currently operates more than 140 warehouse and distribution facilities across the Southeast, including a site in Grenada and an existing service center for trucking operations in Richland. The expansion will add a new 150,000-square-foot logistics facility at the company’s current Richland location, enhancing its capacity to meet the rising demand for efficient and reliable freight solutions.
Governor Tate Reeves praised the investment, noting its importance to the state’s continued economic success. “This is yet another great economic development project for Mississippi,” Reeves said. “Our state has one of the best transportation networks in the country, so it’s not a surprise that more distribution and supply chain management companies want to invest here. Mississippi is on the move, and Averitt Express is helping keep our record-breaking momentum going. By adding 27 new jobs and expanding its capabilities, the company is reinvesting in its success and contributing to Rankin County’s economic growth and Mississippi’s future.”
The Mississippi Development Authority is supporting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive (MFLEX) program, with additional assistance from Rankin County and the city of Richland. Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork emphasized the impact of the expansion, saying, “Averitt Express once again chose Mississippi because it pays off. This expansion brings more jobs, stronger supply chains, and new opportunities for Rankin County families. Mississippians have the grit and determination to deliver, and that—along with our position as a top business location—is why Averitt and so many others continue to grow here.”
Averitt Express President and COO Barry Blakely said the company’s decision to expand in Richland reflects its long-term commitment to the communities it serves. “At Averitt, we believe our growth is tied directly to the strength of the communities we serve,” Blakely said. “This expansion in Richland represents more than a new facility—it is a commitment to creating jobs, investing in Rankin County, expanding our infrastructure, and continuing to deliver the supply chain solutions our customers count on. We are proud to deepen our roots in Mississippi and look forward to building on the strong partnerships that make this growth possible.”
Local leaders also welcomed the news as a major victory for the region. “Averitt Express’ commitment to our community is a testament to the strong business environment we’ve built in Richland,” said Mayor Clay Burns. “This nearly $10 million investment and the addition of 27 new jobs are a significant win for our residents and city and a major step forward for our local economy. We are thrilled to see their continued success and commitment to our city.”
Rankin County Board of Supervisors President Sid Scarbrough echoed that sentiment, noting, “We are thrilled to see Averitt Express expanding their presence in Rankin County. This significant investment and the addition of 27 new jobs are a testament to our county’s robust business climate. This project further strengthens our position as a leading hub for the logistics industry, bringing more opportunities and solidifying our reputation as a prime location for businesses to grow and succeed.”
Rankin First Chairman Noel Daniels added, “The Averitt Express expansion is a great win for our community with its substantial investment and 27 new jobs in Rankin County. This project powerfully demonstrates the economic development momentum we’ve built in our community, serving as a clear sign that our business-friendly environment and strategic partnerships are attracting and retaining top-tier companies. We are proud to partner with Averitt Express and look forward to their continued success in Rankin County.”
The company plans to fill the new positions within the next five years, continuing its mission of providing high-quality logistics and transportation services.
