Atmos Energy was proud to join Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley and local leaders this morning in Pontotoc to celebrate the final phase of an expansion project for natural gas service in Northeast Mississippi.
This project, which began in 2021, is part of Atmos Energy’s Rural Expansion program. In partnership with the Mississippi Public Service Commission, Atmos Energy has completed 130 projects in 46 communities since the program’s inception in 2018. During that time, Atmos Energy invested over $24 million and has been able to provide natural gas service to nearly 4,500 Mississippians who previously lacked access to affordable energy.
“Today is the culmination of three years’ worth of work in multiple phases and more than $2 million capital investment to expand natural gas service to residents in Pontotoc and Lee County,” said Matt Davidson, Atmos Energy president of the Mississippi division. “We’re always excited to give people more choices for their energy needs and the opportunity to save money on their utility bills by using safe, reliable, and affordable natural gas.”
“I am proud to join Atmos Energy and Pontotoc officials today for this milestone. The completion of Atmos Energy’s Eastern Pontotoc rural expansion projects will provide natural gas service to 200 rural Mississippians,” said Commissioner Brandon Presley. “This expansion will not only help reduce energy costs for residents but also promote economic development in rural Pontotoc County.”
In addition to Commissioner Presley, several local leaders were on hand for today’s event.
“Natural gas service is the foundation for successful communities,” said W.B. McShan, board member for East Pontotoc Water Association. “The work done by Atmos Energy will enhance the quality of life and economic development for this area.”
Wendy Collins, Division Vice President of Rates and Regulatory Affairs, summed it up: “This is a great day for Northeast Mississippi. The investments Atmos Energy is making today will pay dividends for families in the months, years, and decades ahead. We are proud to play a role in making Pontotoc and Lee County a better place to live, work, and raise a family.”
