America250 Mississippi is proud to be represented at the Great American State Fair with an immersive Mississippi Pavilion on the National Mall from June 25 through July 10, inviting visitors from across the country to discover the people, culture, history, and innovation that have helped shape the American story.
As part of the nationwide America250 celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Mississippi Pavilion offers an engaging exhibit experience highlighting the state’s extraordinary contributions to the nation through music, literature, civil rights, medicine, industry, technology, and the arts.
“Mississippi’s story is America’s story. From changing the world through music, literature, and innovation to leading breakthroughs in manufacturing, aerospace, and healthcare, our state has helped shape this nation for generations. As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, we’re proud to share Mississippi’s remarkable legacy, and the bright future we’re building, with visitors from across the country,” said Gov. Tate Reeves.
Organized into themed exhibit areas, the pavilion showcases the people and places that have made Mississippi one of the nation’s most influential states.
Visitors can explore “Mississippi Shapes Our Story”, celebrating iconic Mississippians whose achievements have left an enduring mark on America, including Elvis Presley, Tennessee Williams, Walter Payton, Medgar Evers, Jim Henson, creator of The Muppets, and pioneering surgeon Dr. James Hardy.
In “Mississippi Writes Our Story”, guests can discover the state’s unparalleled literary heritage through interactive displays featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning and internationally acclaimed authors, while learning why Mississippi has produced more nationally recognized literary award winners per capita than any other state.
The “Mississippi Curates Our Story” exhibit highlights the state’s rich artistic and cultural traditions, from the renowned artwork of Walter Anderson and the internationally recognized USA International Ballet Competition to the Mississippi origins of the Teddy Bear and the heritage of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Visitors will also experience “Mississippi Advances Our Story”, showcasing the state’s leadership in aerospace, advanced manufacturing, medical innovation, shipbuilding, and uncrewed aircraft systems. Interactive displays feature NASA’s Stennis Space Center, Huntington Ingalls Industries, Mississippi State University’s nationally recognized drone research, and a live digital ticker illustrating the global impact of Dr. James Hardy’s groundbreaking work in heart and lung transplantation.
The pavilion also features an 18-foot video wall, original artwork commissioned through America250 Mississippi, championship sports memorabilia, and a photo opportunity celebrating Mississippi as the Birthplace of America’s Music with B.B. King, Jimmie Rodgers, and Elvis Presley.
“One of Mississippi’s greatest strengths has always been its people—the storytellers, artists, educators, innovators, and families who have passed down traditions while inspiring future generations,” said First Lady Elee Reeves. “As visitors experience our pavilion, I hope they see not only the remarkable history that has shaped our state, but also the warmth, creativity, and welcoming spirit that make Mississippi truly deserving of its name as the Hospitality State.”
Guests are encouraged to explore the pavilion, interact with exhibits, and learn how Mississippi continues to shape America’s cultural, economic, and technological future.
