In recognition of National Ag Day, Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce will host a promotional event on the south side of the Mississippi State Capitol grounds tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Ag Day festivities will celebrate the theme “Our Food Comes from the Farm.” Governor Tate Reeves will sign a proclamation proclaiming March 21, 2023, as Ag Day in Mississippi. The festivities will feature two cow milking contests. Local television news reporters will go head-to-head, and Commissioner Gipson and his wife, Mississippi’s First Lady of Agriculture Leslie Gipson, will compete against each other in a second round of competition. Beason Family Farms will be on hand providing complimentary milk.
National Ag Day was started in 1973 by the Agriculture Council of America as an effort to encourage every American to understand how food and fiber products are produced, to appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products, to value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy, and to acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food and fiber industry.
