Mississippians from across the state gathered at the Mississippi Coliseum on Saturday, June 20, for United in Song, a landmark event commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
As the cornerstone celebration of the America250 Mississippi initiative, the free public event featured an evening of music, history and shared pride.
Presented by BDO and supported by additional sponsors, the program highlighted Mississippi’s cultural heritage and its contributions to the American story. Mississippi Public Broadcasting recorded the event and will broadcast it statewide later.
Gov. Tate Reeves delivered remarks recognizing the significance of the nation’s 250th anniversary and Mississippi’s role in shaping America’s progress and global influence.
“As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, events like United in Song remind us of the enduring spirit that defines our nation and the important role Mississippi has played in shaping its story,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “I encourage all Mississippians to join us in upcoming America250 events and initiatives as we continue celebrating our shared history and bright future as patriots throughout 2026.”
The production featured a statewide volunteer mass choir, live orchestra and children’s choir performing patriotic selections and original compositions by Grammy- and Dove Award-winning composer David T. Clydesdale.
Performances reflected the state’s musical legacy, incorporating gospel, blues and contemporary influences. Featured artists included Steve Azar, Ballet Magnificat! and Brandon Bennett, along with video tributes celebrating Mississippi as the Birthplace of America’s Music.
The program also included historical and cultural vignettes highlighting Mississippi’s diverse contributions to the United States. Hundreds of volunteers from across the state supported the event.
“United in Song beautifully showcased the talent, faith and cultural richness that has made Mississippi so special,” said First Lady Elee Reeves and America250 Mississippi Co-Chair. “It was inspiring to see generations of patriotic Mississippians come together through music to celebrate our nation’s history and the values we share.”
United in Song marked a milestone in Mississippi’s America250 commemoration, offering residents an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s history and look ahead to its future. The America250 Mississippi commission continues to engage communities statewide through programs and events leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary on July 4 and beyond.
