The Commercial Dispatch reported last week on a massive unclaimed money find: $90,000 worth of Walmart stock for the Lowndes Community Foundation. This money had been lost for at least five years before it was turned over to Treasurer David McRae, identified, and returned to the Foundation as part of the Treasurer’s Unclaimed Money Program.
Lowndes Community Foundation Treasurer and Co-Founder Jim Davidson explained these assets were purchased in 1993 to help fund the organization initially and were forgotten about over the years because there were no certificates to keep track. The Foundation changed location several times, making it hard to trace where to return the money to.
