Lift Every Voice is a poignant Juneteenth celebration filled with soul-stirring music that has long served as a powerful expression of both the struggles and resilience of the African American community. This event pays tribute to the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, marked by the historic June 19, 1865, announcement in Galveston, Texas, signaling the end of slavery.
Juneteenth stands as a joyous ode to freedom, equality, and African American heritage, while also underscoring the ongoing quest for justice. Through a transformative musical journey, from exclusion to equality and from oppression to inclusion, these songs will deeply resonate with the audience, echoing the enduring spirit of progress and unity.

John Christopher Adams
A frequent performer of opera, jazz, gospel, and musical theatre, tenor John Christopher Adams has performed on stages around the world including Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Israel, Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, and Seattle.
Operatic tenor and Mississippi native, John Christopher Adams, has created this meaningful concert to share personal stories from the Civil Rights Movement and commemorate Juneteenth 2024. He is joined in performance by pianist, Tyler Kemp, for a memorable and moving musical experience.
You will hear songs such as “Soon I Will be Done,” “Ain’t-A-Dat Good News,” “Hush! Somebody’s Callin’ My Name,” “I’m a Soldier,” “Amazing Grace,” “A Change Gon’ Come,” “We Shall Overcome,” and many other soulful spirituals and Civil Rights songs.
