Shower Power, a nonprofit helping downtown Jackson’s unhoused population, is the beneficiary of the 42nd WellsFest Music Festival.
The popular, family-friendly event will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, 1150 Lakeland Drive, Jackson. The alcohol- and drug-free festival features non-stop music, children’s activities, food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, a plant sale and an online auction. There is no charge for admission or parking.
Wells United Methodist Church has presented WellsFest as an outreach ministry since 1984. Each year, the church selects a different local non-profit social service agency to receive all net proceeds from WellsFest. The previous 41 WellsFests have raised more than $1.6 million to benefit social service non-profits in the metro area.
This year, WellsFest will benefit Shower Power, a local nonprofit which serves the homeless.
“It’s an honor Wells Church chose us as this year’s WellsFest beneficiary,” said Nick Spradley, executive director of Shower Power. “The funds from the festival will help Shower Power continue providing free hygiene services, meals, shelter, clothing and other essentials for folks experiencing homelessness across Jackson.”
Spradley added, “Shower Power accepts financial donations, hygiene items, clothing and food for our clients year-round. Our facility is at 836 South Commerce Street in Jackson. Reach us at 769-610-6296 or ShowerPower.ms@icloud.com.”
WellsFest is a ministry of Wells United Methodist Church, located on Bailey Avenue in Jackson, which is celebrating its 100-year anniversary. Wells United Methodist Senior Pastor, the Rev. Dr. Lewis E. Logan II, said,
“Our congregation views every WellsFest as our gift of love to the community” said the Rev. Dr. Lewis E. Logan II, Wells’ senior pastor. “WellsFest brings together a broad spectrum of the community to share a joyful way of helping our disadvantaged brothers and sisters.”
Dr. Logan said the church welcomes direct donations to support Shower Power and volunteers to help conduct the festival. He said booth spaces for vendors are still available. For more information about the festival, call Wells United Methodist Church at 601-353-0658 or visit wellsfest.org.
