Recently, Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the sentencing of Michael T. Stringfield, Jr., 44, on one count of felony desertion for failing to pay $38,545.40 in past-due child support. This case was investigated and prosecuted by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

“Parents have a legal and moral obligation to support their children, and I will continue to hold them accountable when they fail to meet those responsibilities,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “I am grateful for the dedicated prosecutors and law enforcement officers of my office and our partners at the Mississippi Department of Human Services for working hard to ensure Mississippi children get the support they deserve.”

On May 26, 2026, Stone County Circuit Court Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced Stringfield to five years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with time suspended and five years post-release supervision. Stringfield was ordered to pay full restitution in the amount of $38,545.40.
