Packaging solutions provider DRC Industries is expanding into Lowndes County with a $4 million investment that will create 50 jobs, state and local officials announced.
The company will establish operations at an existing facility in Columbus, where it will expand production of its industrial packaging products while strengthening its ability to serve customers throughout the Southeast.
“More and more companies are choosing Mississippi. It’s further proof that we’re taking the right approach to creating good jobs and growing our economy,” Gov. Tate Reeves said. “DRC Industries’ investment will create 50 new jobs in Lowndes County and new opportunities for Mississippi families. This investment adds to our state’s historic momentum while strengthening our economy and the communities that power it.”
DRC Industries provides custom packaging products, services and solutions for a wide range of markets and industries. The company specializes in industrial packaging products, including corner board, paper tubes and cores, and chipboard sheeting designed to protect products during storage and transit.
Company officials said Columbus was selected because of its strategic transportation advantages, including access to inbound raw materials through port, truck and rail networks.
“DRC Industries, Inc. is proud to open its newest facility in Lowndes County, Mississippi,” said Daniel R. Abrell, co-owner and director of sales for DRC Industries. “Columbus, Mississippi, is home to several highly valued DRC customers, including Steel Dynamics, Aluminum Dynamics, New Process Steel and others. We will manufacture and stock many industrial packaging items to serve the southern market.”
Abrell also praised local workforce development partners for supporting the company’s expansion.
“In addition, the WIN Job Center, Mississippi Department of Employment Security and East Mississippi Community College have welcomed us with open arms and are committed to assisting us in hiring high-quality employees who can grow and thrive as part of the DRC family,” Abrell said. “We are grateful for their excellent support.”
He added that the Columbus operation complements the company’s existing manufacturing facilities in Carrollton, Kentucky, and St. Petersburg, Florida.
“Along with DRC’s Carrollton, Kentucky, and St. Petersburg, Florida, manufacturing locations, our Columbus, Mississippi, facility is strategically positioned to serve growing markets with our unique products,” Abrell said. “We look forward to partnering with Lowndes County and surrounding communities.”
The Mississippi Development Authority is supporting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive, or MFLEX, program.
Golden Triangle Development LINK CEO Meryl Fisackerly said the region’s infrastructure and workforce played a key role in attracting the investment.
